“Kagua Blanc” and “Tokyo White” earned Gold and Silver medals at GREAT INTERNATIONAL BEER, CIDER, MEAD & SAKE COMPETITION!

Far Yeast Brewing beers, Kagua Blanc and Tokyo White, were awarded medals at the 2019 Great International Beer, Cider, Mead & Sake Competition (GIBCC) in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA on October 26, 2019. Kagua Blanc won the Gold medal in the fruit & spice ale category. Tokyo White won the Silver medal in the Belgian & French Ale / Belgian Wit beer category. 

“KAGUA Blanc” hasis a dry flavor with a mixture of moderate sweetness, slight bitterness, and it  subtle sourness to compliment the spiciness derived from “Sansho,” a Japanese pepper. The gorgeous aroma from fresh Yuzu and yeast esters harmonize in the nose. In the finish, the subtle scent of Sansho suppresses the floral aroma and gives rise to an exquisite flavor. 

 

“Tokyo White” is a dry, crisp Saison style beer. You can enjoy its mouthfeel with mild hop bitterness and pleasant sourness.

The second launch of Off Trail “3 Funkeys,” a blend of three different barrel aged beers, will release to market Tuesday, December 24th.

For the second edition of the new brand “Off Trail” that challenges innovative beer brewing, Far Yeast Brewing (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Shiro Yamada) will release “3 Funkeys” on Tuesday, December 24th.

Our second challenge blends Belgian-style strong ales, using Brettanomyces wild yeast and oak barrel-aging to create a distinctive, complex flavor. Each of the three components were aged in red wine barrels for eleven months.

 

After aging, each beer showed distinguishing characteristics. One had a Cherry pie-like aroma, another had a smoky flavor profile, and the third was well rounded and full of oak tannins. By blending these three beers together each characteristic found its place with the others, resulting in a well-balanced, complex Strong Ale.  This beer is a must-try beer for wild-beer and barrel-aged beer geeks but is also recommended for all beer fans. We will continue to challenge ourselves to innovate and deliver value to our customers worldwide.

Far Yeast Brewing launches the new brand “Off Trail” The first release is the barrel-aged beer “Ginspiration”

Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President: Shiro Yamada) unveils a new brand  today: “Off Trail.” The first product, “Ginspiration,” will be released on the market on Thursday, November 14th. 

Barrel-Aged beer is beer has been aged for a period of time in a wooden barrel much like wine. In addition to the flavor and aroma contributions of the wood, wild  yeasts further ferment the beer, resulting in an elegant product that surpasses a standard beer’s complexity. Base beer, yeast and bacteria, fruit and spices, and barrel selection all work together to create a unique combination of flavors through the aging process. Although originating in Europe, Barrel-Aged beers are now appreciated by craft beer consumers the world over, especially in the United States.

To craft “Ginspiration,” juniper berries*, commonly used for making gin, were steeped in the beer after barrel aging. Fusing the herbal aroma of juniper berries and the base beer’s citrus peel bitterness deepened the beer’s flavor and produced a gin-like aroma. The beer pairs well with sunomono and salmon, pungent cheese, or shrimp and pork dumplings. “Ginspiration” will be released to the market starting Thursday, November 14th in 750ml bottles and on draft at “Far Yeast Tokyo Craft Beer & Bao” in Shibuya, Tokyo as well as other taprooms around Japan. * What is Juniper Berry?

A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various species of junipers. It has a herbal aroma, moderate bitterness and spicy flavor. Juniper berries are commonly used as a spice, particularly in European cuisine, and also gives gin its distinct flavor.

A new limited collaboration beer with Edge Brewing Project, Japanese Grape Saison, will be released in late October.

Far Yeast Brewing will release “Japanese Grape Saison,” a limited beer brewed in collaboration with Edge Brewing Project of Melbourne, Australia, in late October.

“Japanese Grape Saison,” is brewed with locally sourced “Muscat Bailey A,” a popular red varietal, and “Koshu,” a white grape indigenous to Japan. The beer’s wine-like aroma was inspired by Australia’s new-world wine country.

In addition to local fruit, we used three kinds of hops: Merkur, Nelson Sauvin, and Enigma. As a result, the beer has a complex fruity aroma and a dry, crisp finish. Like a wine, when the beer is aerated a fresh fragrance unfolds.

Two Kagua limited brews, “Blanc Cuvée Dry hopping” and “Rouge Special Edition 2019” will be released at the end of October.

Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. (head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, representative director: Shiro Yamada) will release two limited beers, “Blanc Cuvée Dry hopping” and “Rouge Special Edition 2019,” under the Kagua brand at the end of October.

“KAGUA”, meaning “Waga-Kaoru,” can be translated as Japanese fragrant beer. Kagua uses unique ingredients such as Sansho pepper and Yuzu. The beers are full-bodied with smooth carbonation from secondary fermentation in the bottle. The Kagua lineup has built its reputation as a high-quality, creative beer among beer fans worldwide since its launch.

Blanc Cuvée Dry hopping

“Blanc Cuvée Dry hopping” was brewed with the same base recipe as Kagua Blanc. However, the two beers differ in their fermentation method. While Kagua Blanc is fermented on a Belgian Saison Yeast, Blanc Cuvée Dry hopping was fermented as a mixed culture beer. The different yeast strains working at the same time create a more complex aroma. To complement the results of the mixed culture fermentation, this beer was dry-hopped with three types of hops: Mosaic, Simcoe, and Chinook. “Mosaic” is rich in citrus fruit, passion fruit, berries, and herbal notes culminating in a very complex hop aroma. “Simcoe” is often described as being both fruity and earthy, bringing apricot and citrus notes and pronounced aromas of pine. “Chinook” has aromas of grapefruit, strong and distinctive pine, and spice. The beer finishes dryer on the palate than Kagua Blanc so that the hopsaroma can stand out to create an enjoyably rich fragrance.

Rouge Special Edition 2019

Rouge Special Edition 2019 is the fourth limited edition brewing product following 2013 Rouge, 2017 Rouge, and 2018 Blanc. This year, we increased the ratio of dark malt to produce deeper shades and more malt flavor than previous editions. This true-to-style Belgian Quadrupel still keeps with the original character of “Waga-Kaoru.”  In addition to the well-matured taste of normal Kagua Rouge, Rouge Special Edition 2019 has been further aged to showcase musky barrel aromas from American oak powder, Sansho pepper, and malt flavor. This high alcohol full-bodied beer pairs perfectly with meat dishes.
